Founded in Sanlúcar de Barrameda in 1821, Bodegas Barbadillo can look back over more than a hundred years of tradition as a 100% family-owned bodega producing wines and vinegars protected by the D.O.s Jerez-Xeres-Sherry, Brandy de Jerez, Vinagre de Jerez and D.O. Manzanilla-Sanlúcar de Barrameda. It is in fatc the leading producer inthe area covered by the Manzanilla D.O., with a stock turnover ratio of 50%. The company owns over 500 hectares of vineyards, and controls all processes of wine production from grape harvesting and ageing through to bottling and distribution. It today enjoys ISO 9.001, 14.001 quality certification and displays the Doñana 21 Environmental Label. In 2002, it inaugurated the Manzanilla Museum, opening the doors of its extensive wine production facilities – some of the largest in Spain – to the general public.
In 1975 the company launched its Castillo de San Diego, an example of innovation in winemaking, and today this white wine is one of the most widely sold brands in Spain.
An energetic process of diversification has led Bodegas Barbadillo to internationalise its leading brands, develop GibalbÃn, an Andalusian red wine, open two more D.O.s and embark on other business projects. These include Bodegas y Viñedos Vega Real in the D.O. Ribera del Duero, Bodega Pirineos in the D.O. Somontano and Sierra de Sevilla, which distributes 100% Iberian Bellota ham products from Seville’s Sierra Norte.
